Teachers-Affirmation Activities
Weave Me the Sunshine (1,2,3rd gr)
Give each child a tinsel strand. If you have six or fewer children, give each child two or three strands. Pass around a flying disk, and have each child weave his or her tinsel through the spokes of the disk. While a child is weaving his or her tinsel, have the othr students think of ways that child follows God. Then, when the child is finished, have the others share their idesas. For example, Samantha might say that Joshua follows God by listening to ther Bible stories in Sunday school, or Michael might say that Emily follows God by being helpful.
When everyone has woven his or her tinsel in the spokes of the disk, say : “See how this shines like the sun. That’s just like the way you all shine God’s love to the world.” Hang the disk in our room a s a reminder of your students shining qualities!
Eggstra-Special Promises (1,2,3rd gr)
Write each of these promises from God on a slip of paper, and put each one inside a colorful plastic egg. The promises to write are : “God promises to love you,” “God promises to be with you,” “God promises to listen to your prayers,” and “God promises to help you.”
Choose four children to be the Chasers, and give each on an egg. Have them chase the other children and tag them wit their eggs. When a chld is tagged, tell the Chaser to gently crack the egg over the other child’s head and read the promise aloud. Then have the Chaser put the promise back in te egg, put the egg together, and give it tothe other child, who becomes teh Chaser.
Play for several minutes, and make sure each child is caught at least once.
When the Goin’ Gets Tough (1,2,3rd gr)
Form a circle. Have each child take a turn spinning a pin wheel. Tehn have the rest of the class blow on it to keep it going for as long as possible. When everyone has had a trun, say :”Encouragement from others can help us keep going when things get tough just as blowinng on the pin wheel kept it going. Let’s take turns encouraging each other.”
Give one child a pin wheel, and have him or her spin it. While the wheel is spinning, have everyone else mention three encouraging things about him or her. For example, when Taylor has the top, others might say Taylor is fun, giving and a good listener. Then have Taylor spin the top again and blow it to the next person in the circle. Continue until everyone has been encouraged.
